When I went to the Botanic Gardens in Oxford, I learned many facts about adaptation in plants. Cacti actually have hollow stems to store water. One type of cactus has leaves shaped to allow the water to run down into the middle. Also many plants in the rainforest actually grow on the stem or branches of others. The Vilicus Americanus plant can swivel its leaves around to face the sun. The Venus Flytrap has a mass of mouth-like openings that close once a fly has landed on them in order to get moisture and food.
