Sports Day this year was held for the first time at the Senior School’s facilities at Tilsley Park in Abingdon. The boys were clearly excited at the prospect of showing their talents off at an actual athletics stadium. The morning began promptly with the first round of field events and the 400m. Sam in Year 4 almost broke the 400m record in only the second race and there were some impressive performances from Lawrence, who won the 100m and the accuracy throw. Isaac, from Year 3, won the high jump and long jump. However, the most outstanding performer in the junior section was Luke in Year 4, who won the vortex throw, the 800m and was part of the record-breaking relay team for Phoenix. He was therefore the worthy recipient of the 'Victor Ludorum' for the under 9 category. Further up the school, Charlie in  Year 6 impressed in the high jump with a height of 1m 13cm. Archie, also in Year 6, won the shot putt with a throw of 7m 50cm. James in Year 5 from Phoenix house won the high jump, with a new school record of 1m 30cm. The under 11 'Victor Ludorum' went to Joe and Kayden in Year 6, who both broke records in their sprint races and they were part of the victorious relay team, who smashed the old school record by 4 seconds. In the under 13 category Charlie in Year 8 won the cricket ball and the 100m and Rowan, also in Year 8, won the 200m and 800m. Billy in Year 7 received the 'Victor Ludorum' this year for his fine performance in the long jump (4m 13cm), the 200m and the relay for Dragon House. The overall winners of the Sports Day cup were Dragon, for whom Thomas in Year 8 received a handshake from the Headmaster at the presentation. We hope that a wonderful morning of competition can be replicated at Tilsley Park next year.
