Today a selection of our top woodwind and brass players attended Radley’s annual workshop. They were joined by pupils from seven other prep schools, totalling 60 pupils. As usual, the morning involved all the instrumentalists working in their section groups, with teachers from Radley coaching, which included warm-ups and rhythm work as well as preparing their pieces for the concert. The children worked hard and were rewarded with snack breaks and a very nice lunch! Then in the afternoon they all came together to form a Concert Band under the direction of Simon Carr, the Head of Woodwind at Radley, who organised the event. Following tea with parents, they assembled in the Silk Hall to perform their pieces in a concert. The Bassoons and Oboes performed Autumn from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and She’ll be comin’ round the mountain, followed by the Clarinets who played Clarinet Cha Cha and Chalemeau Rag. Then the Flutes played It’s a small World and Somewhere out there followed by the Saxophones with Theme and Sea Song. Brass group performed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the final section was the Percussion, who played Workshop Samba. The concert culminated with the Concert Band and the Batman Theme and Londonderry Air.
