Harvest is an important time for Pre-prep. It marks the transition from summer to winter and is such a lovely celebration of the world around us during the autumn season. During this morning's assembly, Pre-prep enthusiastically shared what we had learnt about our harvest with parents, local clergy and members of the wider community. The service began with boys bringing their food offerings which were displayed prominently at the front, a wonderful array of produce that was donated by parents to the Abingdon food bank to support families in need.
Boys were taught ‘Sing a song for Harvest’ in music lessons with Tara and sang with gusto about our ‘Healthy Habanera (eating 5 a day!) and the Harvest Samba 'olay!'
Reception boys made a flippy floppy hat and performed a song about the Dingly Dangly Scarcrow jumping up and showing us their shaking moves! Year 1 enthusiastically sang a harvest favourite 'Cauliflowers Fluffy' and wrote a class acrostic harvest poem showing their lovely artwork to illustrate their ideas ranging from hens to tractors. Year 2 confidently presented a thought provoking message about how the important values of sharing with others can be linked to individual vegetables (peas, squashes, lettuce, turnip and thyme) and then performing the song 'What you sow'.
Our visiting clergy Reverend David Pickering (from Kingston Bagpuize parish) reminded us that not all children are as fortunate as ourselves, and the food donations provided by parents would be welcomed by families in the Abingdon parish. This donation was received in person by charity volunteer Hilary who was introduced during the assembly. The harvest assembly was a lovely occasion for Pre-prep boys to come together for the first time this term, and sharing this with our wider school community.
