After qualifying from the Mercia Regional Athletics Championships at Tilsley Park, two boys from year 6, Quinn and Joe, took part in the National Athletics Finals at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on Tuesday 4 July. This was the first time that more than one boy had taken his place at the finals and both were looking forward to their individual track events. Quinn began at 10.00am in the 1500m. He was in the second race, which proved to be the fastest, and despite a very fast start from the others, he steadily worked his way through the field. He finished strongly with a time of 4 minutes 55 seconds, which placed him 5th out of 19 runners. Quinn did feel slightly disappointed afterwards, but this was a massive improvement from last year. In the 800m, Joe was placed in the second race, which again proved to be the quicker of the two races. Despite carrying an injury, Joe ran a solid race and finished in a time of 2 minutes 36 seconds. Both boys did themselves proud and hopefully this will inspire others to try and qualify next year.
