Private View - held on Thursday 16th September
Sports Centre Atrium, Abingdon School
The exhibition will be on show until October 15 and can be viewed during Sport Centre opening hours.
Born and raised on the Orkney Islands, Steven MacIver attended Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, graduating with a first class Honours degree in 2002 before being offered a place at the Slade School of Fine Art, London to complete his MFA. Before leaving the Slade, Steven was nominated for, and won, the Sainsbury Scholarship in Drawing and Painting at the British School at Rome where he lived and worked between 2004 and 2006. He has established himself as one of the most exciting young artists in the country, receiving a total of 10 awards for his work and exhibiting extensively across the UK and in Italy.
Steven now lives and works in Oxfordshire. His 2009 project, entitled ‘Latitude' saw him circumnavigate the world following the line of latitude N41º and visiting cities and towns across Europe, America, Japan, China and Kazakhstan. Returning to his Abingdon studio, Steven then produced a new body of work, fuelled by the resource materials and memories of his travels.
In June this year, Steven became Abingdon School's first artist in residence. The residency provided Steven the opportunity to further develop his practise and explore new ideas. The work produced during the residency, along with a selection of his latitude work, will be exhibited in the atrium of our Sports Centre.
The residency was made possible through the generosity of The Abingdon Foundation Development Fund.
