Thoughts on the new year

A very happy new year to all OAs.

2010 promises to be an interesting year in many ways.   It will be sad to bid farewell to Mark Turner as Headmaster.   Mark has been an ardent supporter of the OA Club’s activities and our thanks go to him for everything he has done, and will continue to do during his last two terms, on our behalf.   I know that Felicity Lusk is looking forward to meeting as many OAs as possible and that she too will be an active supporter of the life and work of the Club.

And, there are many activities to look forward to from rugby, golf and cricket to year group reunions and professional networking events.   Please do take time to look at our calendar and put the relevant dates in your diaries.    For the first time, we hope to be offering online booking for these events and you will be notified as soon as the system is up and running.

The year will culminate with a special celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sir James Cobban, Abingdon’s Headmaster from 1947 – 1970, on Saturday 24th November.    Sir James’s daughters will all be present at this prestigious event and we hope to welcome as many OAs as possible back for the celebration, in particular all those ‘Cobban boys’ amongst you.   Please do contact the OA Club to register your interest.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the year.   In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or ideas about the OA Club and its activities I’d love to hear from you.
