International Rowing 2010

2010 saw OA participation at the Under 23 World Championships at Brest, in Belarus. Nicolai Jurgens (2007) came home fourth for Germany in the final of the coxless pairs; Max Gander (2008) was once again selected to cox the Great Britain coxed four, which picked up a bronze and Matthew Rossiter (2008) went one better than 2009 picking up a silver medal, this time in the coxless four (the UK’s top boat). George Rossiter and Jamie Cook, both 2010 leavers, were selected for the eight to race at the Junior World Championships held in Racice, Czech Republic. The crew, with George stroking and Jamie at five, were always in contention for a minor medal in the final, but just missed out as other crews pulled away in the last 500 metres, ultimately finishing fifth. Hazewinkel, Belgium, was the venue for the two day Coupe de la Jeunesse and saw three lower sixth participants: Jamie Copus was selected to stroke the top boat, the coxless four, while John Carter and Vassilis Ragoussis were selected for the eight, and to double up in the coxed four. James Tracey, Alexander Hatzis, Andrew Halls, Felix Newman and cox Neil McKenzie, (all fifth formers) joined up with four boys from Radley College to take gold in the eight at the annual GB France event.
