The OA Club organises a variety of social reunions to complement the ever-increasing range of sporting and professional events that are on offer. These reunions can sometimes be focused around a particular member of staff, a school club or society or most basically on time of leaving. OAs who left Abingdon in the 1960s have been organising independent social reunions for many years and the OA 60s reunion has now become a regular feature in the OA social calendar.
Forthcoming social reunions are listed below but please see our events calendar for details of the full range of OA Club events.

National Liberal Club
Thursday 8 March 2012

National Liberal Club, Whitehall Place, London SW1A 2HE
A warm invitation is extended to all Old Abingdonians to attend a reception from 6.30-8.30 pm on Thursday 8 March 2012 at the National Liberal Club in London.
The Head, the OA Committee and members of Common Room (past and present) are very much looking forward to catching up with OAs of every vintage over drinks and canapés.
The guest list is being updated all the time and already includes Tom Ayling, Gaynor Cooper, Dean Evans, Ian Fishpool, Andrew Hall, David Haworth, Mike Litchfield (also OA 1994) and Sue Wigmore.
Partners are also warmly encouraged to attend this event and all guests are asked to observe the National Liberal Club’s formal dress code; for gentlemen, this includes a jacket and a tie and for ladies, similarly formal ‘business dress’.
Tickets for this event can now be booked online or by returning a booking form to the OA Office. A subsidised rate is being offered to recent leavers (OAs from 2007-2011).
Pre-1959 Leavers Reunion - March 2009
Saturday 28 April 2012
12.30 pm Lunch - Abingdon School
In March 2009 the OA Club hosted a lunch for the longest-serving generation of OAs and their partners. We were delighted to welcome back over 90 guests including OAs whose connection with the School dates from the 1940s and 1950s (with some memories even stretching back into the 1930s).
We propose to repeat the occasion on Saturday 28 April 2012 and invitations will be circulated in the new year. If you would like to register your interest for this event, please contact the OA Office.
Castle Cornet, Guernsey
Friday 11 May 2012

7.00 for 7.30 pm - The Hatton Gallery, Castle Cornet, St Peter Port, Guernsey
The next event planned for the OA 60s Club, one of the longest-running social cohorts in the OA community, is a dinner at Castle Cornet in Guernsey on Friday 11 May 2012. All OAs who left the School during the 1960s (and any interested parties from the 4-5 years on either side) are warmly invited to attend this event.
This year’s co-ordinator Bruce Mackay (1964) - a medic, now retired and living in Guernsey - has timed the event to coincide with Guernsey’s Liberation Day celebrations on Wednesday 9 May. The 2012 programme of events will soon be available on the Guernsey Tourism website (www.visitguernsey.com) but to get an idea of the vast array of parades, displays, church services and other activities which characterise the island’s annual celebration, take a look at last year’s programme.
“Seiges, massacres, explosions, French occupation, German occupation, gubernatorial residence, are all included in Castle Cornet’s colourful history. Now is the OA 60s Club’s chance to add to its ‘occupiers’!”
Early booking for this event is strongly advised to guarantee the best deals on travel and accommodation. Travel options include Condor Ferries, which operate out of Weymouth, Portsmouth and Poole, or flights with Flybe, Aurigny and Blue Islands from all around the UK. (Some agents offer inclusive deals with hotels and car hire included.)
Tickets for the dinner are £75 per person and include a champagne reception, dinner with wine and port. These are available online or by sending a cheque (made payable to ‘Abingdon School’) to the OA Office along with a completed booking form.
The dress code is black tie and a guest list will be posted soon as confirmed bookings are received. If you would like to find out more about the event, please contact Bruce Mackay by e-mail.
