Professional development awards

Archie Wearne (2002)

The OA Club Committee set up this annual programme of awards in 1997. A modest sum of money is set aside each year by the club to provide support for the professional development of OAs at any stage in their career and at any time of life. Applications are now invited for the OA Club's 2011 professional development awards. These are available for:

  • post tertiary education work experience
  • vocational/professional training
  • mid-degree course electives
  • postgraduate courses

Please note that gap year projects, first degrees generally and MBA or law conversion courses are not typically financed. The OA award subcommittee particularly encourages more eclectic applications and expects to allocate up to £1500 to two or three successful applicants.

Please download the application form and return it to the OA Office by 30 April 2011. The Sub-Committee’s decisions will be made and communicated by the end of June 2011.

Recipients of the 2009 awards were:

  * Tristram Bainbridge (2005) - £500 towards woodworking tools for his Graduate Diploma in Furniture Conservation
  * Rory Hamilton (2002) - £200 towards his medical elective in a trauma unit in a Durban hospital
  * Jonathan Thomas (2006) - £200 towards a christian youth training scheme run by the Titus Trust
  * Archie Wearne (2002) - £300 towards a mandarin language training course in Beijing
