I am delighted that you’ve found your way through to the OA Club website. We are very proud of it and hope that you find it both interesting and useful.
I became President for the next couple of years at the AGM in November 2009 and took on the role from Jonathan Gold, who had done a splendid job. I am kept firmly in order by our tireless Chairman, John Bunce; Jan Glover, with her great team in the Development Office, looks after us all. If you have any queries about anything then they will be able to help you.
As others have remarked before, I remember my time at Abingdon School with great affection and happiness. I am delighted to see it in such rude health and glowing with success, both academic and sporting. Equally, the Club is working hard to keep in touch with alumni, re-make contacts that have become lost, and ensure that there is a programme of OA events that engage with as many of you as we can each year. Our aim is to have one the most active and vibrant clubs in the independent sector and this is the least that a school as successful as Abingdon deserves.
One of the new OA initiatives is to launch a career mentoring service for sixth-formers and young OA’s. To make this as effective as possible, we need plenty of OAs with as broad an experience base as possible. I hope that you feel that you can give some help with this. The task is not expected to be onerous, nor intended to be, but to allow sixth formers and young OA’s to be able to access practical thoughts and advice about the working world. Please let either me or the team know if you can help - the more the merrier!
I appreciate that our alumni are now spread far and wide and once away from Abingdon it becomes more difficult to get back. However, I would urge you to come and be a part of the Club when you can. We have set up a range of events and locations to make this as appealing as possible to you. If you can’t make it but want to chat then please drop me a line via the Abingdon Alumni e-mail - alumni@abingdon.org.uk.
I look forward to meeting and hearing from you!
