Friday 25 March 2010

The second Abingdon School Professional Dinner took place on Thursday 25 March 2010 at Oriel College in Oxford.   Hosted by Professor Mike Stevens (1968), who is the CLIC Professor of Paediatric Oncology at the University of Bristol, over 80 current boys, alumni and curren parents involved in medicine took advantage of the opportunity to network.    The aim of this OA Club initiative is to encourage lower and upper sixth boys to meet undergraduates, junior professionals and senior practitioners in the field in which they hope to ultimately work.   These events also provide an enjoyable forum for experienced practitioners to network and to pass on advice to those working their way up the career ladder.

Feedback from the medical dinner suggests that 100% found the event enjoyable!  Reasons included:   “The opportunity to network, meet old friends, and engage with the next generation” and feedback from the boys suggested:   “It was great as a current 6th form student to talk to people from many different branches and stages of a medical career.    Also, speaking to current medical students who I hadn't seen for a few years was useful for finding out what the next few years will be like for me.
