At the English Secondary Schools’ National Finals, Abingdon set two new school records in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay and the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay. Abingdon qualified for the competition by winning the regional qualifiers and waited anxiously to see whether their times qualified as one of the top 16 times in the Country.
This was indeed the case, and the team of 4 swimmers headed off to The Quays, Southampton today to compete in this prestigious event. Against the toughest of competition the boys performed extremely well. The first of their events was the Medley, in which they had qualified with a time of 2:01.14. Michael Esnouf led out and set a very good time in the first leg, which set the benchmark for the rest of the team. They finished with a new school record of 1:59.61.
In the Freestyle event the boys once again put in a massive effort and shaved one and half seconds off their qualifying time, again setting a new school record with a time of 1:47.63.
The team, consisting of Adrian Au, Nicholas Whitehead, Luke Teh and Michael Esnouf were rightly pleased with their performance at the National Finals.
