New Head

Felicity Lusk

The Chairman of Governors has today, 24 November 2009, announced to parents and the Abingdon School community the appointment of the new Head of Abingdon School.

From David Lillycrop, Chairman of Governors.

When I wrote to you in June I predicted that there would be a strong field of candidates to succeed Mark Turner, and that certainly proved to be the case. From an outstanding group of individuals we have now made our selection.

I am delighted to be able to tell you that the new Head of Abingdon School, with effect from September 2010, will be Miss Felicity Lusk.

Felicity's name will be known to many of you from her extraordinary achievements at Oxford High School. During her 12 years as Head there the School has earned a reputation not only as one of the leading academic schools in the country but also as a vibrant community, encouraging individuality and self-confidence, and nurturing the potential of all its students.

A New Zealander, Felicity graduated in Music from Victoria University in Wellington, NZ. Her teaching career began in New Zealand where she was Director of Music at Wellington East Girls' College and then at the co-educational Aotea College.

On moving to England in 1990 Felicity joined the Hasmonean High School in London, initially as Director of Music, teaching both boys and girls, and latterly as Deputy Head and also Head of the girls' school. She was appointed Head of Oxford High School in 1997.

Felicity has also held a number of external appointments, and recently became an independent member of the Standards Committee of the City of London Corporation. She is a past governor of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and until this year was a member of the Court of Oxford Brookes University.

You may be surprised that, after 750 years of men, Abingdon School has appointed a female Head. I would only comment that the Governors were looking for an outstanding individual to provide leadership and promote excellence in all that Abingdon represents. That individual is Felicity Lusk.

Yours sincerely,

David Lillycrop
