5 - 13 February 2012
The away leg of the German exchange to Bielefeld took place just before half term for the group of 18 boys and 5 girls from St. Helen's. Despite the sub-zero temperatures, an excellent time was had by all. Highlights of the trip included time in lessons in school, a trip to Münster, a visit to the Bielefeld Stadttheater and a joint drama project with the exchange pupils, a tour of the Old Library of the Ratsgymnasium, ice skating, a visit to the Volkswagen Autostadt in Wolfsburg and a tour of Dr Oetker World. Some lucky boys were treated to a weekend in Berlin by their host families. The English team also won the annual Germany-England football fixture (second year on the trot!). The boys thoroughly enjoyed their time in Germany, not only to enhance their language skills but also to develop their appreciation of German culture and traditions by staying in families and developing close friendships with their partners.
Details of next year's German exchange will be published shortly to the current third year Germanists.
