Fours Head of the River

5 November 2011

Two Abingdon crews and one OA crew raced today at the Fours Head of the River. The event played host to 500 crews from all over the country competing in fours and quads over 4¼ mile tideway course from Chiswick to Putney Bridge.

The weather held out and produced great racing conditions for the event. The crew of Andy Halls, Matthew Carter, Felix Newman, James Richards and Neil McKenzie raced in the junior fours event and came in a strong second to Eton.

The quad of Tom Browne, Alex Fisher, William Horlock and Robbie Brough produced a solid result coming in 17th out of 47 crews in the junior quads event.

Old Abingdonian’s Joe Calnan, Brian Cullen, Tom Williams, Iain McKenzie and cox Ian Middleton (current pupil) raced as Griffen Boat Club in the Elite coxed fours category against fellow OA’s Tim Clarke, George Rossiter, Rory Copus and George Whittaker in a host of other crews.
