Key Dates
Entry form returned to school:
(entry forms are available from your school or the admissions secretary)
Wednesday 14 December 2011
Drama Scholarship Auditions Monday 20 February 2012

Up to four awards will be made annually to candidates who demonstrate significant ability as stage performers combined with strong commitment to working as part of a creative team. Successful candidates will in addition display such personal qualities as enthusiasm, initiative, imagination and dedication as well as be able to demonstrate their ability to inspire and motivate others. Candidates (both external and internal) may apply for the award at 13+ entry (Third Year), Fourth Year entry or upon entry to the Sixth form.  The winning of a drama award does not in itself secure a boy entry to the school; he must also meet the academic requirements for entrance in a separate examination appropriate to his age-group.

Application Procedure

Applications for 2012 close on 14 December 2011.

Thereafter, some candidates will be short-listed to attend a day of auditions, group improvisation and interviews on 20 February 2012.
It is expected that drama award holders will participate in a range of extra curricular school productions and demonstrate sufficient interest and aptitude to pursue Drama and Theatre Studies to GCSE level and beyond. All awards are reviewed annually, and are subject to satisfactory academic progress and behaviour.

Applications

Candidates will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and application form, in which they outline the range of their experience and achievements as a performer, as well as their interests in other areas. The application form will ask for a brief report on the candidate, and details of current school (or other) productions in which the candidate is playing a significant part.

Selection

Some candidates will be short-listed to attend a day of interviews and auditions in late February. Candidates will be asked to:

  • perform a two-minute speech from a piece of scripted drama that has been chosen, prepared and learnt with the aim of showing the candidate’s vocal and physical skills to best advantage. The piece will ideally demonstrate some range or contrast.
  • take part in a group improvisation exercise
  • attend an interview with members of the drama department staff
  • attend an interview with the Head and Master of Scholars
  • provide written references from their Head and head of drama (where appropriate)

If it is possible, a member of the drama department staff will also see the candidate perform in a school production.
