Abingdon boys start the season well
In early April the Abingdon School Cricket Club 1st XI took part in the Emirates Airline Pro ARCH Trophy in Dubai. With 6 very strong teams from the UK, New Zealand and Dubai taking part this was seen as ideal preparation for the forthcoming season. The excellent training facilities, incredible stadiums, and first class accommodation enabled the coaching staff to put the boys through their paces in as professional a manner as was possible.
The squad consisted of 15 boys from the upper sixth down to the fourth form. Despite this variation in age the team seemed to gel tremendously well and develop as the tournament went on.
In the 5 games played, Abingdon won 3 and had chances to win the other two - with the clear highlight being the victory over the eventual champions St Kentigern School. This resulted in us gaining a creditable 2nd place.
The boys also spent time taking in some of Dubai’s tourist attractions as well as visiting a water park and the famous Emirates Mall.
With the main season already producing 4 wins out of 4 our trip has clearly got us off to a flying start!
