Credit Crunch at the Economics Society

14 January 2011

Professor Tim Jenkinson addressed the School's Economics Society today on the topic of 'The Credit Crunch - where are we now?' He skilfully guided the audience through the complexities of the credit crunch with a chronological narrative.

The origins of the crisis in the US housing market were explored and the mechanism through which this became a global banking crisis was explained. Potential risks to the nascent recovery such as a collapse of confidence in government bonds or sustainability of the single currency were mapped out. Professor Jenkinson made an inherently complex topic both interesting and readily accessible to the audience.
