Five Old Abingdonians hosted a 5-a-side Charity Football event today in order to raise money for the Gede Secondary School in Kenya. The OA's, comprising Dale Barker, George Palmer, Russell Gordon-Jones, Tom Green and Iain Mitchell, ran a very successful event, which was enjoyed by members of the 3rd and 4th Year, as well as the Lower 6th. Nineteen teams took part in what was a world-cup scenario tournament, eventually being won by a Lower 6th team, captained by Oliver Leach.
The event was a great success and the money raised will be heading to the Gede Secondary School in Kenya, where two of the OA's, Dale and George, worked from April to June this year as part of their gap year travels. The Gede Secondary School link was first established when Mr Davies visited the school last October, and this year the relationship between the two schools has grown thanks to the presence of the OA's in Kenya over the past few months. The money raised will be going toward the school sports teams, providing them with balls, shoes, nets, and other essential equipment.
We would like to thank the boys who took part and the efforts of the school and OA's for organising the event.
