On 21 April 47 students and 4 members of staff, plus two Anglia Guides visited the First World War battlefields of Ypres, the Somme and Arras to look at various sites associated with the Great War. It was a very successful trip with students learning a great deal about the conditions the soldiers fought in and the reasons why the war was so costly and lasted so long. Sam Penrose was able to visit the Menin Gate and find the memorial to his great-uncle Robert Mowforth Penrose, who was in the Australian Army and died in the attack on the Messines Ridge in 1917.
