The U17 team won at Marlborough today. The result bears tribute to commitment to excellence by all members of the team, many of whom were competing a year up. It is the club’s first match victory since the Pritchard years of the 1980s. Man of the match goes to Peter Barnshaw who broke the school 400m record with a p.b. of 51.5s coming 1= in the most dramatic of finishes, as well as the school 100m hurdles record in 14.5s. Niall Keown also broke the school long jump record with 6.12m and Patrick Sardeson broke the school javelin record with 40.71m. Also of note were first places by Will Nott (11.5s for the 100m), Christian Reedman (4:49 in the 1500m), William Barnes (10.59m in the shot), Peter Barnshaw (28.04m in the discus as well as 100m Hurdles and 400m).
The U19 team came second to Marlborough, also their best result of the modern era, and was noteworthy for the depth of ability that we have often lacked in the past. Alex Muir and Tom Watkins obliterated the field in both the 800m and 1500m, sharing the honours neatly in the 800m, though allowing a whisker to separate them in the 1500m. Also of note was first place by Tom Foxon with 5.74m in the long jump.
The U15 age group were represented by a handful of athletes, who punched well over their weight, with Nick Boreham’s 25.4s in the 200m the most notable performance, while Tom Fabes and Ben Nabnian were not far off the pace.
