On a blustery afternoon, the Abingdon 1st XV entertained a large and physical RGS High Wycombe in the last 32 of the Daily Mail National Cup. In front of a large crowd, Abingdon's game plan did not start off in the best way with the visitors scoring in the first five minutes. But it was the strength in character of the ever-improving Abingdon side, playing against the wind, that witnessed two very good tries made through the forwards. At half time, the score stood at 12 - 7 to Abingdon. The second half witnessed Abingdon strangle their opposition by playing territory and using the wind to their advantage. A further two tries meant the game finished 24 - 7 to Abingdon, with Hamish Grant and AJ Hatzis the scorers.
The next round, the last 16, will be played after Christmas, but at home against Truro School, who yesterday beat Kings Taunton School by a similar margin.
A very pleasing day for Abingdon Rugby.
