On Saturday Abingdon travelled to Harrow to compete in their annual Invitational match. Travelling through numerous torrential rainstorms the mood was less than optimistic on the bus journey. However on arrival to the north London track the clouds parted and competition got underway.

Abingdon's field athletes did not have their best day, however we excelled on the track, most notably at senior level, running numerous season's and personal bests, and scoring valuable points for the squad.

Seniors

Tom Butcher 400m 2nd (51.74)
Harry Venables 800m 3rd (2:10.61)
Calum Steer 1500m 3rd (4.13.92)
Nick Webster 400m 1st (56.58)
Alex Moss, Tom Butcher, Harry Venables, Kofo Braithwaite 4 x 100m 3rd (46.59)

Inters

Henry Insley 1500m 2nd (4.34.54)
Josh Ponting 800m 3rd (2.15.68)
Alex Pennington 800m 4th (2.15.88)

Juniors

Liam O'Hickey 300m 1st (40.13)
Liam O'Hickey 100m 2nd (12.69)
Kipp Mainstone, Jasper Rolls, Naum Berezovskiy, Liam O'Hickey 4 x 300m 3rd (51.92)

The event culminated with the senior boys 4 x 400m. Oliver Moody led Abingdon out, handing over to Tom Butcher, who both put Abingdon in a commanding position. Calum Steer ran a superb 3rd leg extending the lead to roughly 30m. Harrow saved their best runner until last, who closed the gap to within 5m of Abingdon at the end of the back straight. As Abingdon and Harrow rounded the final bend it was neck and neck, Alex Moss dug deep and reestablished a 2m lead with 50m to go. He crossed the line to take the win in a time of 3 minutes 40s.

Athletes will now enjoy a well earned rest over half term with the next event hosted by Radley on Thursday 8 June.
