Last Tuesday Abingdon welcomed eight schools to compete in the 2nd cross-country meet at Cox's Field. It was a beautifully sunny and crisp winter's day until ten minutes before the start, when the heavens opened and the course was filled with snow. Undeterred the runners completed their warm-ups and towed the start line. There were some fantastic mini battles for places within both the junior and intermediate races.

Quinn Miell-Ingram (Abingdon Prep) set a commanding pace at the front of the junior race which was unmatched all the way to the finish line. Ben Gostick of St Albans finished in 2nd place a full 27 seconds behind. Alexander Darbishire ran a well paced race to finish 6th overall, and the Abingdon team narrowly missed out on the medals, finishing in 4th position.

The intermediate race was fiercely contested by Will D'Arcy (Abingdon) and Luca Stubbs (St Albans). Both boys sprinted down the finish chute to complete the course in a time of 14:08, however; it was Stubbs who managed to take the victory on the line. Rowan Miell-Ingram narrowly missed out on a podium place finishing in 4th position.

The clubs attention now turns to the County Championships for the chance to earn an Oxfordshire vest and a place at the National Cross-Country Championships.
