With the river at Abingdon in flood and un-rowable since Christmas, the Abingdon crews have done a great job in training on the ergo and in the gym. It was with a real sense of excitement that all the crews travelled to the Olympic course at Dorney on a crisp sunny still day for what would be their first chance to row on the water since December and the first race of the term.
With all the age groups still in mixed squad boats and with little rowing under their belts the emphasis was on rating low and rowing strong rather than racing flat out. The crews all raced well with some good early season performances. The crews look forward to returning to training on the water at Abingdon this week as they gear up for Hampton Head in February and the main race of the term, Schools Head, in mid March.
